Description
The Teltonika RUT206 is a rugged, compact industrial-grade router designed to deliver reliable 4G LTE connectivity in demanding environments. Combining cellular, wired, Wi-Fi, and serial communication interfaces, it is well-suited for IoT, industrial automation, and remote / mission-critical connectivity use cases.
Key Features
Feature | Specification / Capability |
---|---|
Cellular Connectivity | LTE Cat 4: up to ~150 Mbps download / 50 Mbps upload |
Dual SIM with Failover | Two Mini SIM slots (2FF) for automatic failover to maintain connectivity in case one SIM / network fails. |
Serial Interfaces | RS‑232 and RS‑485 via a 6‑pin terminal block—useful for connecting legacy industrial equipment, sensors, controllers. |
Wired Networking | Two Ethernet ports (10/100 Mbps): one WAN (configurable) + one LAN. |
Wi-Fi | 802.11b/g/n (Wi-Fi 4), can operate as Access Point (AP) or Station mode. |
Power Options | • 2‑pin industrial DC input: 9‑57 VDC, with reverse polarity and surge protection. • PoE powered: supports both Active PoE (802.3af) and Passive PoE (on Ethernet spare pairs) input. |
Storage / Logging | Internal memory + micro‑SD card slot supporting up to 2 TB, for data logging, firmware, backups. |
Software / Protocol Support | Runs RutOS (based on OpenWRT). Supports industrial communication protocols like Modbus, DNP3, DLMS. Also supports VPNs, firewall rules, QoS, remote management via Teltonika RMS, SNMP, MQTT, etc. |
Physical / Environmental | Measures about 83 × 25 × 83 mm, Housing in anodized aluminum. Operating temperature from –40 °C to +75 °C, humidity 10‑90% non‑condensing. Rated IP30. |
Other Interfaces / Indicators | LED indicators for power, signal strength, Ethernet, etc. Antenna connectors: SMA for cellular, RP‑SMA for Wi-Fi. Reset buttons for reboot/factory reset. |
Advantages & Use‑Cases
Redundancy & Reliability: Dual SIM with automatic failover ensures continuous connectivity in the case of network issues. Crucial for remote installations or where uptime matters.
Legacy Support: With RS‑232 & RS‑485, it can integrate with existing industrial devices (PLCs, sensors) that do not support Ethernet or modern protocols.
Flexible Powering & Deployment: Support for wide voltage DC input and PoE allows flexible installation – rack, cabinet, DIN‑rail, or remote/outdoor applications.
Compact & Rugged: Small form factor + wide temperature range + robust casing makes it suitable for harsh or constrained environments.
Remote Management: RMS (Remote Management System) helps to monitor, update, troubleshoot devices without going onsite – saving cost and increasing scalability.
Considerations / Limitations
Ethernet ports are 10/100 Mbps (not gigabit) – so if very high bandwidth wired traffic is needed, this may be a bottleneck.
Wi-Fi is only 2.4 GHz, and Wi-Fi 4 (b/g/n) – no 5 GHz or newer Wi-Fi standards. In situations where 5 GHz or high‑throughput WLAN is required, this might be limiting.
IP30 rating means some dust protection, but not waterproof – for outdoor/wet environments additional enclosures may be needed.
